Before you get too far, check these essentials:

• Passport validity – Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after leaving Russia. If you need a renewal, do this early.
• Visa photo – Russia is strict about photo requirements. Get a professional photo done (post offices or camera shops usually offer this). Don’t DIY! It’s not worth the rejection risk. Here’s a handy guide.
• Be ready to part with your passport – The consulate will hold your passport for 2–3 weeks during processing. If you have other international trips planned, consider timing carefully or paying for express processing.

Western travellers must have a formal invitation letter from a registered tour operator or hotel.

Once the online form is done, print it and take it to your local visa processing centre (or consulate/embassy if they handle applications directly. Always check appointment rules first).
